1. Superman

Start by lying face down on a yoga mat, with toes pointed and arms stretched out overhead.

Keeping your arms and legs extended and straight, lift your hands and feet approximately 12 inches (30 cm) up off the floor so that your body is an elongated curve. You should feel the tightness in your glutes and lower back.

Hold the raised position for 2-5 seconds then return to the beginning position to complete one repetition.

Do 2-3 sets of 12-15 reps.

2. Hip Crossovers

Start this exercise by lying back flat on your back, arms extended out from your side. Bend your knees up until they are over your hips, shins parallel to the floor.

Twist your lower body while keeping your abs tight, lowering your knees toward the floor while keeping your shoulders flat on the floor. Hold for 2-counts, then twist over to the opposite direction. Return to the starting position to complete one repetition.

Do 2-3 sets of 12-15 reps.

3. Lying Side Hip Raises

This exercise is great for keeping your core tight and firm.

Begin by assuming the side plank position, with your body and legs straight. Slowly drop your hips until they touch the floor, then return to the starting position to complete one repetition.

Do 2-3 sets of 12-15 reps on each side.

4. Plank With Leg Lift

Start in a face down position with your bodyweight supported by your forearms. Your body should be straight, with your abs and glutes tight. Lift your right foot up behind you 10-12 inches, and hold for 60 seconds. Return to the start position, then repeat with the other leg to complete one set.

Do 3-5 sets.

5. Bird Dog

This exercise helps build endurance and strength throughout the core. Start by getting on your hands and knees, making sure your hands and knees are directly aligned under the shoulders and hips.

Lift your right leg straight out behind you, while at the same time lifting your left arm up to point straight ahead of you. Keep your body aligned, hips and shoulders level. Hold this position for 5 seconds, then switch sides, again holding for 5 seconds. Return to the start position to complete one rep.

Do 2-3 sets of 12-15 reps.
